An investigation of local high spatial resolution adaptive PET system

Liu Jingjing,Xie Qingguo

Strategic Study of CAE 2011, Volume 13, Issue 10,   Pages 105-112

Abstract:

A critical challenge in positron emission tomography (PET) is to develop affordable systems having high spatial resolution. We imagine a PET system, for imaging a region of interest (ROI) with ultra high performances and other regions with normal performances by use of inhomogeneous performances PET detectors. We propose such a prototype, consisting of a few ultra high intrinsic spatial resolution PET detectors and quite a few normal ones. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the location and the number of high resolution detectors. The high resolution detectors are grouped in a continuous partial ring. The initial results show that such a prototype is capable to bring the advantages of significantly improving the spatial resolution in a ROI. For a specified area, the improvement is influenced by the location and fraction of high resolution detectors in a ring. The encouraging results also indicate the possibilities to regulate detectors to achieve high spatial resolution according to the application, which is possibly formulated.

Detection of Explosives and Active Material by Nuclear Technologies

Chen Hande

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 1,   Pages 77-85

Abstract:

The advantages and characteristics of detection of hidden explosives and radioactive materials by nuclear technologies are explained in this paper. The active neutron interrogation technology and their application to detection of explosives are introduced in detail. The non-neutron interrogation technology by gamma method, the commercialized industry neutron sources and gamma ray detectors and their advantages and disadvantages respectively in security application are summarized respectively. The security problem of two typical hidden explosives are discussed with 11 characteristics of a perfect detecting system of explosives. The current research progress in association with particle imaging and fast-pulse neutron system and the passive method to detection of radioactive materials are briefly described. Finally, the paper points out that for detection of hidden explosives and radioactive materials it is necessary to use different technologies for different scenes and targets or use combined technologies.

Abstract: We present a low-power inductorless wideband differential using a 0.13-μm SiGe BiCMOS process for a . With a shunt–shunt feedback and capacitive coupling structure, theoretical analysis and simulations were undertaken, highlighting the relationship of the amplifier gain with the tunable design parameters of the circuit. In this way, the design and optimization flexibility can be increased, and a required gain can be achieved even without an accurate cryogenic device model. To realize a flat terminal impedance over the frequency of interest, an RC shunt compensation structure was employed, improving the amplifier’s closed-loop stability and suppressing the amplifier overshoot. The -parameters and transient performance were measured at room temperature (300 K) and cryogenic temperature (4.2 K). With good input and output matching, the measurement results showed that the amplifier achieved a 21-dB gain with a 3-dB bandwidth of 1.13 GHz at 300 K. At 4.2 K, the gain of the amplifier can be tuned from 15 to 24 dB, achieving a 3-dB bandwidth spanning from 120 kHz to 1.3 GHz and consuming only 3.1 mW. Excluding the chip pads, the amplifier chip core area was only about 0.073 mm.
